Peter Carey
Biography
Peter Carey was born in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria in 1943 and studied science at Monash University. His writing career started as an advertising copywriter in Melbourne, before opening his own agency in Sydney in 1980. Illywhacker was his first important novel and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1985. He moved to New York where he taught at New York University. He is now considered by many to be the foremost living Australian writer.
