Johannes Anyuru
Biography
Johannes Anyuru was born in Borås, Sweden in 1979. His father is from Uganda, having fled from Idi Amin, and his mother from Sweden. He grew up in Växjö. He initially studied to become an engineer but then changed his mind and became a writer. He started as a poet, with his first collection using Homer’s The Iliad as background. Since then he has written novels, two of which have been translated into English, and a play. In 2007, he converted to Islam.
