Biography
Gerd Brantenberg was born in 1941 in Oslo. Her grandmother was secretly engaged to Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. Her novel Augusta og Bjørnstjerne Augusta og Bjørnstjerne (not translated) is about this relationship. She is a cousin of Lars Mjøen. She studied English, History, and Sociology in Fredrikstad, London, Edinburgh, and Oslo. She has a master’s degree in English from Oslo University. She has worked as a university lecturer and has been very active in the feminist movement. She has written several novels, three of which have been translated into English, though she is best-known for her feminist work Egalias døtre (UK: The Daughters of Egalia ; US: Egalia’s Daughters) .
