Carmine Abate
Biography
Carmine Abate was born in 1954 Carfizzi. His family were from the Arbëreshë community, Italians of Albanian ethnicity and he spoke Arbëresh as a child. He graduated from the University of Bari in literature and then moved to Hamburg, to where his father had earlier emigrated. He taught at a school for immigrants and began publishing stories. His first works were written in German. He returned to Italy, where he worked as a writer and teacher. He has published novels short stories, poetry and non -fiction. Three of his novels and a collection of his stories have been published in English.
