Uwe Timm
Biography
Uwe Timm was born in 1940 in Hamburg. When his father returned from the war, his father opened a fur business. Timm did an apprenticeship as a furrier and then took over the family business when his father died. When the business went bankrupt, Timm went to Brunswick College and then to Munich where he studied German and Philosophy at the Ludwig-Maximilians University and wrote his thesis on Albert Camus. After spending some time at the Sorbonne, he became involved in left-wing politics in Munich, later joining the German Communist Party. He has worked for many years as a writer, producing a succession of well-received novels, stories and children’s books.
