Esther Kinsky

Biography

Esther Kinsky was born in 1956 in Engelskirchen. She grew up in Bonn and studied in Bonn and Toronto. For much of her career, she has been a translator, translating from English, Polish and Russian into German. From English, she has translated the poet John Clare, Iain Sinclair and James Leslie Mitchell (the real name of Lewis Grassic Gibbon). She has written novels, travel works, poetry and children’s books. She was married to the late translator Martin Chalmers, who translated some of her books into English. She has lived in London, Hungary and Berlin.
