Georges Magnane
Biography
Georges Magnane was born René Catinaud in 1907 in Neuvic-Entier (Haute-Vienne). His family were farmers. He wrote several novels, one of which has been translated into English, but also translated several books from English into French, including works by Ernest Hemingway, Philip Roth, Truman Capote, Vladimir Nabokov and John Updike. He was a journalist, covering the 1948 London Olympics for Sartre’s L’Humanité. He was also a pioneer in sport sociology. He died in 1985.
