Ladislav Klíma
Biography
Ladislav Klíma was born in 1878 in Domazlice. He was expelled from school for insulting the Habsburg monarchy and went to school in Zagreb, before travelling around, doing odd jobs, partially living off an inheritance from his mother. Most of his works published in his lifetime were philosophical – witty, positive and critical of the world. Egoism and the idea of life as a game became core to his philosophy. His novel – Utrpení knížete Sternenhocha (The Sufferings of Prince Sternenhoch) – is an anti-novel full of sex and violence and humour. He also wrote several plays. Much of his work was only published long after his death of tuberculosis in 1928, though he destroyed much of his work before his death.
