Oya Baydar
Biography
Oya Baydar was born in Istanbul in 1940. She published her first novel while still at high school, influenced by Françoise Sagan. It was published in a newspaper and also got her expelled. She studied sociology at Istanbul University and then worked at Hacettepe University as an assistant lecturer. She taught and became involved in politics, leaving her novel writing for a long while. She was arrested in 1972 for her left-wing political activities. She then published political articles and left for Germany after the 1980 coup. She returned to Turkey in 1992. She has written novels and many works of non-fiction
