Elif Shafak
Biography
Elif Shafak was born in Strasbourg in 1971. Her father was a philosopher and her mother later became a diplomat. When her parents separated, she and her mother moved to Ankara. She did not see her father during this time. He has since in various places and currently lives in London. She has a degree in International Relations, a Master’s degree in Gender and Women’s Studies and a PhD in Political Science. Her first book was a collection of stories. She has since published ten novels, as well as works of non-fiction and has written articles for numerous magazines and newspapers.
