Aslı Erdoğan
Biography
Aslı Erdoğan was born in Istanbul in 1967. She graduated from Robert College in Istanbul and then studied computer engineering and physics at Boğaziçi University, where she recieved a masters and doctorate. She then worked on the Higgs boson at the European Nuclear Centre in Geneva. She then went to Rio de Janeiro to take a Ph.D. in physics but dropped out after two years but stayed on in South America for two years. At this point, she started writing, publishing novels and stories. She also started publishing in articles in newspapers. In 2016, she was arrested on charges of membership of an armed terrorist organization and inciting the people during a police raid on Özgür Gündem. She was eventually released after 133 days in prison.
