Halim Barakat

Biography

Halim Barakat was born in 1936 in Kafroun in Syria into a Greek-Orthodox Arab family. He took a B.A. and M.A. in sociology from the American University of Beirut and a Ph. D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan. After teaching at the American University of Beirut, he taught at various universities in the United States, primarily at Georgetown. As well as writing novels and short stories he has written many works on politics and sociology in the Arab world.
