Biography
Yahya Yakhlif was born in1944 in Samakh. His family emigrated to Jordan after the Nakba , and he lived in the city of Irbid. He holds a teacher’s diploma and a Bachelor of Arts from Beirut Arab University. He worked in teaching and journalism. He started by wrting short stories but has gone on to write stories, novels and children’s books. One of his novels has been translated into English.
He worked as Secretary-General of the Palestinian Writers and Journalists Union in 1980 . He became Director General of the Department of Culture in the Palestine Liberation Organisation in 1987 .He was appointed Minister of Culture in the Palestinian Authority between the years 2003-2006 .
and appointed Chairman of the Supreme Council of Culture, and Chairman of the Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture and Science in 2007 . He headed Palestinian delegations to many UNESCO and ALECSO conferences
