Thomas Savage

Biography

Thomas Savage was born in Salt Lake City in 1915 and raised in Montana. His parents divorced when he was two and his mother married Charles Brenner. Savage took his stepfather’s surname, only changing to Savage when he started writing. He studied at Montana State College and then at Colby College in Maine. Much of his writing is set in Montana though he lived most of his adult life in Maine. He is one of those writers who seems to have slipped between the cracks as he is not Western, nor (post-)modernist nor allied with other schools. He died in 2003.
