Lewis Nordan
Biography
Lewis Nordan was born in Forest, Mississippi in 1939. His father died when he was still a child and his mother remarried. After a spell in the navy, he went to Millsaps College and then took an M.A. from Mississippi State University and then a Ph. D. in English from Auburn University. He spent much of his career teaching, including a long stint as a professor of English the University of Pittsburgh. He initially started writing and publishing short stories and that has been his forte, though he has written three novels. Many of his stories and novels are set in Arrow Catcher, Mississippi, based on the town of Itta Bena, where he grew up. Much of his work is funny and lyrical and deals with troubled relationships and the quirks of his home town. He died in 2012.
