Nicole Krauss

Biography

Nicole Krauss was born in New York in1974. Her mother was British and her father American. Both were Jewish. Her father was first an engineer and then an orthopaedic surgeon. She initially wrote poetry before turning to the novel. She studied English at Stanford, where she met Joseph Brodsky. She then took a master’s degree in art history at Oxford University and the Courtauld Institute in London. She has gone on to publish several acclaimed novels and short stories. She was married to the writer Jonathan Safran Foer.
