Yann Martel
Biography
Yann Martel was born in Spain in 1963. His father is a well-known Quebec poet, Emile Martel, who won Canada’s Governor General’s Award for French Poetry in 1994. As a child, he traveled extensively with his parents, who were diplomats, and continues to travel. He studied philosophy at Trent University and then did various odd jobs before turning to writing. Life of Pi won the Man Booker prize and was translated into French by his parents.
