Gustavo Sainz
Biography
Gustavo Sainz was born in Mexico City in 1940. His father was a journalist and he was taught to read at a young age. he worked briefly as a journalist before going to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, firstly to read law, and then literature. His first novel was published when he was twenty-five. This was one of the early novels of the Onda movement. He spent some time at the University of Iowa, where he completed his second novel. His later novel – A la salud de la serpiente – is about his time there. In the early 1980s he moved to the United States. where he taught in various universities. He became a professor at Indiana University Bloomington. He died in 2015.
