Salvador Reyes
Biography
Salvador Reyes was born in Copiapó in 1899. His father was a lawyer and judge. He grew up in Caldera, Taltal y Antofagasta, all port towns, which fostered his love for the sea, as will be shown in his books. He studied at the Commercial Institute of Antofagasta, before his family moved to Valparaiso. He later moved to Santiago, where he worked as a journalist. In 1938 he was named Chilean consul in France and would continue in the Chilean diplomatic service till his retirement in 1967. He wrote novels, stories, a play as well as numerous essays and articles. He died in 1970.
