Biography

João Gilberto Noll was born in 1946 in Porto Alegre. He studied literature at the local university, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and then at the Faculdade Notre Dame in Rio de Janeiro. He then worked as a journalist in Rio and São Paulo. He published his first book of stories in 1980, which received considerable success, with one of the stories being adapted for the cinema. Two later novels were also adapted for the cinema. He subsequently wrote novels, stories and children’s books. He died in 2017.
