Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi
Biography
Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi was born in Kampala. Her parents separated when she was two and she as initially brought up by her grandfather. After her father was arrested and brutalised by the Amin regime, she then lived with her aunt. She took a B.A. in English from the Islamic University in Uganda. She became a teacher but took up writing and wrote a play which had some success touring Uganda. She then moved to the UK, where she took an M.A. and Ph. D. She has since taught in various UK universities. She has written plays, short stories and won the Kwani? Manuscript Project for an unpublished work. This work was published as the novel Kintu.
