Wilton Sankawulo
Biography
Wilton Sankawulo was born in Haindi, Bong County in 1937. After attending Lutheran Mission schools, he attended Cuttington University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in education. He then earned a degree in theology at the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Berkeley, California and then an MFA at the University of Iowa. He worked as a civil servant in Liberia, before being appointed Assistant Minister and then became Head of the Council of State in 1995 which governed Liberia temporarily, till Charles Taylor was elected president. When the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy invaded the country in 2003, Sankawulo fled the country and moved to the United States. He has written novels, stories and works of non-fiction. He died in 2009.
