Edward Whittemore

Biography

Edward Whittemore was born in 1933 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He graduated from Yale in history and then served in the Marines. His main profession was as a spy for the CIA, firstly in Japan and then elsewhere, including Jerusalem. He is best known for his strange Jerusalem Quartet. He died of prostate cancer in 1995. He will be remembered for Sinai Tapestry, a brilliant, cult book on Middle East politics throughout the years, which has attracted a lot of interest but has yet to make it into the mainstream or remain in print for long but which, unfortunately, was followed by three other books along the same lines, each one worse than its predecessor.
