Elena Quiroga
Biography
Elena Quiroga was born in Santander in 1921. She grew up on her father’s estate in Barco de Valdeorras, Ourense, which brought her greater attachment to the Galician region, something which can be seen in her novels. After publication of her first novel, she then moved to Madrid, where her second novel was published to considerable acclaim and won the Premio Nadal. She continued to publish a series of well received novels. In 1983, she became only the second woman to be elected to the Real Academia. She died in 1995.
