Enrique Laguerre
Biography
Enrique Laguerre was born in Moca, Puerto Rico, in 1905. He went to the University of Puerto Rico but did not finish his studies. He worked for seven years as a rural teacher, before becoming a journalist. He wrote articles for a variety of magazines before writing his first novel. He finished his education, getting a master’s at the University of Puerto Rico and then a doctorate at Columbia, New York. He continued his career as a journalist, while also teaching at university level. As well as novels and essays, he has also written plays. He died in 2005, just over a month before his hundredth birthday.
