Maylis de Kerangal

Biography

Maylis de Kerangal was born in Toulon in 1967. She is the descendant of a noble Breton family. In Gallo, Kerangal means house of the French speaker. She grew up in Le Havre, her father being a ship’s pilot. She studied history, ethnology and philosophy in Rouen and Paris. She worked for the children’s section of the publisher Gallimard and then spent some time in the United States with her engineer husband. She published her first novel in 2000 and then founded Éditions du Baron Perché, a publisher of children’s works. She has gone on to publish successful novels and stories.
