Olena Stiazhkina
Biography
Olena Stiazhkina was born in 1968 in Donetsk. She studiedhistory at Donetsk National University and did a Ph. D. on Cultural processes in Donbas in 1960-90s. she taught Slavic history at the Vasyl Stus National University in Donetsk and then at the Mariupol State University. She has written numerous articles and books, including short stories, novels, and detective stories. She initially wrote primarily in Russian but now writes only in Ukrainian. She left the Donetsk region after the Russian invasion and became Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Ukrainian History in the second half of the XX century at the NAS Institute of History of Ukraine in Kyiv.
