Sofi Oksanen
Biography
Sofi Oksanen was born in 1977 in Jyväskylä. Her father is Finnish and her mother Estonian. Her father is an electrician and her mother an engineer. She studied literature at the Universities of Jyväskylä and Helsinki and drama at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki. She wrote a full-length play, which was staged in 2007, and which later became her novel Puhdistus (Purge). This novel has had world-wide success and has been translated into thirty-eight languages.
