Damon Galgut
Biography
Damon Galgut was born in 1963 in Pretoria. His father was from a Jewish family and his mother converted to Judaism. He was diagnosed with lymphoma when he was six, an event described in his book Small Circle of Beings. He wrote mainly novels but also stories and plays. He won the Booker Prize in 2021 for The Promise. He is gay which, he says, leads to his writing about strong male relationships.
