Biography
Heloneida Studart was born in 1932 in Fortaleza. She wrote her first novel when she was nine. She moved to Rio de Janeiro when she was sixteen and became a journalist. She soon started writing novels but was also involved in political activity. She was arrested and imprisoned for her opposition to the military dictatorship. She was released and continued to write novels. She was also very much involved in feminism. She was later elected State Deputy for Rio de Janeiro, and re-elected five times, and held various posts during her parliamentary career. In addition to novels, she wrote essays, travel works and journalistic articles. She died in 2007. None of her work has been translated into English.
