Biography
Hans Christian Branner was born in 1903 in Ordrup, a suburb of Copenhagen. His father was a teacher. He started his career as an actor but was unsuccessful and then went to work for a publishing house. Only after he married, did he take up writing, at the suggestion of his wife. He started writing short stories, with his first story Surdejen [The Leaves], covering one of his favourite themes, the influence of childhood trauma on adulthood He was originally a playwright both for theatre and radio but later wrote short stories and novels. He died in 1966.
