Germán Espinosa
Biography
Germán Espinosa was born in Cartagena in 1938. After studying at the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, he started writing poetry and short stories. He wrote his first novel in 1967 but it was not published till 1994. His second novel, Los cortejos del diablo [The Retinues of the Devil], published in 1970 brought him considerable attention. In particular, Mario Vargas Llosa praised his work. His novel La tejedora de coronas [Weaver of Crowns] received particular acclaim. He wrote many works, including poetry, stories, novels, journalism and non-fiction. None of his works has been translated into English. He was known as Gabo sin Nobel, i.e. Gabriel García Márquez without the Nobel Prize. He died in 2007. His son is the painter Adrián Espinosa.
